How Representation Works Now

The process for buying and selling a home is relatively the same as it was prior to August 17th, 2024.

The most notable differences are as follows:

  • Listing brokerages are no longer allowed to publish on the MLS any indication of compensation available for a buyer’s brokerage.
  • Buyers must now enter into a contract for compensation with their brokerage before looking at any houses.

In the new model, the seller is still represented by the listing brokerage and the buyer by the buyer’s brokerage and each agent owes a fiduciary responsibility to protect the interests of their client.
